ThaiBev Physical Climate Risks Exposure
Assessment Results: Future Climate Change Hazard Matrix
ThaiBev conducted desktop-based physical risk assessment of prominent natural at for 58 of Thai Beverage assets located across Thailand, Vietnam, United Kingdom, Myanmar, France, New Zealand, and the two new assets planned in Cambodia, in order to assess the threat from different natural hazards, extreme events and climate change to the production sites based on the intensity and frequency of historical evens/hazards and corresponding projected risk rating under SSP1-2.6/RCD 2.6, SSP2 4.5/RCP 4.5, and SSP5 8.5/ RCP 8.5 scenario for the years 2020, 2030 and 2050.

The assessment considered the longer-term corresponding to the Paris Agreement goal to limit warming to well below 2°C by the end of the century. The assessment was also conducted under RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios for medium term (2030).

The assessment covers six natural hazards, Extreme Rainfall, Heat Stress, Sea Level Rise, Water Scarcity, Wildfire and Wind Storm which may be experienced at the locations.

Natural hazard and climate change risk were evaluated for every location based on readily available global data sets. Various steps in the assessment are as follows:
  • Evaluation of Historical Data on natural hazard in the area of interest to qualitatively evaluate existence and magnitude of the identified natural hazards.
  • Evaluation of climate change projections to assess the extent of changes n climatic variables such as temperature, sea level rise, and extreme precipitation.
  • Qualitative overlaying of climate change projection over baseline conditions for each natural hazard to estimate future natural hazard.
THAILAND LOCATION EXPORSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in Thailand have Intolerable exposures to Extreme Rainfall, Heat Stress, Sea Level Rise and Water Scarcity. Tolerable exposures to Wildfire are anticipated in the longer term across 6 assets. Intolerable Wind Storm exposures are likely to be experienced from today, with increasing exposures to other hazards from 2030 onwards. Water Scarcity exposures increase quickly over the next 2 decades, compared to slower increases in exposure of the other hazards.
VIETNAM LOCATIONS EXPOSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in Vietnam have Intolerable exposures to Heat Stress, Sea Level Rise, Water Scarcity and Wind Storm. Tolerable exposures exist across all assets and hazards except for Wildfire. Intolerable Wind Storm exposures are likely to be experienced from today, with increasing exposures to other hazards from 2030 onwards. Water Scarcity exposures increase quickly over the next 2 decades, compared to slower increases in exposure of the other hazards.
The United Kingdom LOCATIONS EXPOSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in the UK have Tolerable exposures to Extreme Rainfall, Heat Stress and Wind Storm. With Intolerable exposure to Wind Storm in 1 asset that are likely to be experienced from today. Extreme Rainfall and Heat Stress exposures increase relatively slowly over the next 3 decades, compared to assets in Asia.
CAMBODIA EXPOSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in Cambodia have Intolerable exposures to Heat Stress and Water Scarcity in the worst-case scenario. With Intolerable exposure to Wind Storm in 1 asset that are likely to be experienced from today. Extreme Rainfall and Heat Stress exposures increase relatively slowly over the next 3 decades, compared to assets in Asia.
MYANMAR EXPOSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in the UK have Tolerable exposures to Extreme Rainfall, Wildfire and Wind Storm. Extreme Rainfall and Heat Stress exposures increase relatively slowly over the next 3 decades, compared to assets in Asia.
FRANCE EXPOSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in France have Tolerable exposures to Wind Storm across all scenarios. Extreme Rainfall, Water Scarcity and Heat Stress exposures increase relatively slowly over the next 3 decades, compared to assets in Asia.
NEW ZEALAND EXPOSURE SUMMARY
Thai Beverage assets in New Zealand have Tolerable exposures to Wind Storm across all scenarios. Extreme Rainfall and Heat Stress exposures increase relatively slowly over the next 3 decades, compared to assets in Asia.
